Every night of the year we need two or three volunteers to help serve homeless guests at our homeless shelter at 2715 W. Harrison

With the help of Hope’s on the Way deacons Larry Chyba, Joe Winblad, Dan Troy & Jim Deiters Hope’s Winter/Spring Mission began with the project of erecting shelves on Wednesday February 16, 2011 which took 20 volunteer man-hours. And on February 23, 2011 completing the shelving racks took another 15 volunteer man-hours.

The job required moving food stuffs to clear space to begin erecting steel shelving units and starting the assembly of dun age shelves along the east wall. Later the work began with assembling the dunnage racks and then securing the racks so the racks would not move from their location on the loading dock. Replacement handles were mounted on the refrigerator doors.

A Public Address paging system with speakers will be installed by Deacon Larry to help communicate with the evening visitors.

Future needed work will be evaluated and volunteer helper will be sought for the Soup Kitchen and Main Office location at 1645 LeMoyne.
